President's Day

An Acquaintance with Darkness
 by Ann Rinaldi

"When her mother dies and her best friend's family is implicated in the assassination of President Lincoln, fourteen-year-old Emily Pigbush must go live with an uncle she suspects of being involved in stealing bodies for medical research."

Again Ms. Rinaldi's meticulous research results in a story as compelling and suspenseful an any modern mystery.  Her young protagonist, Emily, caught in the maelstrom of events surrounding the Civil War and Lincoln's assassination, suffers loss, fear and sorrow as the whirlwind of confusion surrounds her.
